Ukrainian army became the fourth most powerful in Europe: rating
Ukraine's army has been ranked fourth in the annual ranking of the most powerful in Europe by Global Firepower. The top three are the United Kingdom, Italy, and France.
According to the updated list, as of 2024, the Ukrainian army is inferior to even the German army (ranked fifth), which is one of the largest donors of military aid to Ukraine.
"Ukraine's military power is strengthened by the financial and material support of Western allies, particularly the United States. February 2024 marks two bloody years since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war," the review says.
Spain's army took sixth place in the ranking, Poland's seventh, Sweden's eighth, Greece 's ninth, and Portugal's tenth.
In total, 145 countries were included in the Global Firepower ranking. It is headed by the U.S. Army with an index of 0.0699, and Bhutan is in last place (6.3704). An index of 0.0000 is considered to be the ideal score.
Russia (0.0702) is second, and China (0.0706) is third.
The top ten also includes India (0.1023), South Korea (0.1416), the United Kingdom (0.1443), Japan (0.1601), Turkey (0.1697), Pakistan (0.1711), and Italy (0.1863).
In 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine ranked 22nd in the ranking, in 2023 - 15th, and this year - 18th. In the ranking, Ukraine is "surrounded" by Israel in 17th place and Germany in 19th place.
According to Global Firepower, the Ukrainian army is one of those that are "on the rise." So are the armies of Germany, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, and a number of other countries.
Among the Baltic states, analysts see a decline in military potential in Latvia, while Lithuania and Estonia continue to build up their military power.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Kyiv was recognized as one of the cheapest cities. It took 300th place in the world ranking out of 362, and 158th out of 173 in the European ranking.
