"There is no point": Germany says it will not provide Ukraine with fighter jets and explains why

Germany will not provide Ukraine with Western-style fighter jets, citing a lack of aircraft. They also noted that there is "no point in such military assistance from their side."

The position was voiced by a representative of the government. This was reported by the European news site EurActiv on July 16.

"It makes no sense to provide Ukraine with different types of fighter jets, regardless of who can supply such aircraft," the speaker said.

According to him, even if the fighters look very similar in appearance, they are very different in control, so it is a matter of long-term training.

Earlier, the leader of the opposition German Conservative Party, Friedrich Merz, spoke in favor of sending F-16s to Kyiv. He emphasized that the supply of fighter jets is "a done deal in many countries, including Europe." Therefore, the politician said, Berlin "should not stand aside."

At the same time, the media reports that Germany does not have a single American aircraft, its armed forces have only Eurofighter Typhoon fighters in service.

Today, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway have pledged to supply Ukraine with American-made fighters. And as Ukraine's first pilots complete their training, the first planes are expected to arrive at the front in the next few months.

"Things won't get better if everyone wants to do everything, but we concentrate on what the country or countries and groups can do best," a German Defense Ministry spokesman said when asked about the fighter jets.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, according to media reports, Germany has begun to secretly provide Ukraine with military aid, including heavy armored vehicles. Thus, in late June and early July, the country delivered another significant military package to Kyiv.
