The son of an Israeli minister who formerly headed the IDF General Staff has been killed in the Gaza Strip

Gal Eizenkot, the son of the former Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defense Forces and current minister in the government of Gadi Eizenkot, was killed in the battles with Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip. He was an IDF reservist.

This was reported by the BBC on Thursday, December 7. Gal Eizenkot served as a military paramedic in the 699th Battalion of the 551st Special Forces Reserve Brigade.

As noted, the 25-year-old Israeli army soldier was killed in an explosion in one of the tunnels in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

The minister learned of his son's death during a visit to the southern command of Israeli troops. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his condolences over the death of Gal Eizenkat.

Gadi Eizenkat was the head of the General Staff in 2015-2019. An opposition member of the Knesset, he became a member of the military cabinet in the national unity government established after Hamas' attack on Israel in October 2023.

It is also reported that Reserve Sergeant Yonatan David Deitch, a fighter of the 6623rd Reconnaissance Battalion of the 55th Airborne Brigade "Hizbullah", was killed in a battle in the southern Gaza Strip.

The total number of Israeli military deaths since the start of the ground operation in Gaza in late October has exceeded 80. The number of Hamas terrorists killed has not been reported.
