The President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, addressed the nation and once again announced that he would not run for the next presidential election. He called his decision a "matter of democracy" and urged Americans to support Kamala Harris, who may become the Democratic presidential candidate instead.

Biden's address from the Oval Office was broadcast on the White House's official page on social network X. The president noted that the best way forward is to "pass the torch to a new generation."

Protecting democracy is more important than office

He characterized the 2024 elections as a struggle to save democracy and called them "a movement back and forth between hope and hate."

These elections, he said, will determine the country's course for "the next decades."

"I believe that my record as president, my leadership in the world, my vision for America's future – all of this deserves a second term. But nothing can stand in the way of saving our democracy, including personal ambitions . So I have decided that the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. This is the best way to unite our nation," Biden added.

He emphasized that he respects his position and the Oval Office, where portraits of prominent Americans hang, and that being president was the greatest honor of his life, but he loves his country more than his office or power."

Biden also said he would focus on fulfilling his duties as president for the next six months.

"That means I will continue to cut costs for hardworking families and grow our economy. I will continue to protect our personal freedoms and civil rights, from the right to vote to the right to choose," Biden said.

He promised to help Ukraine and Israel

In addition, he promised that the US would continue to join forces to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia's full-scale invasion, and would work to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

"I'm going to continue to work to end the war in Gaza, to bring home all the hostages and to bring peace and security to the Middle East and to end this war. We will continue to unite a coalition of proud nations to stop Putin from occupying Ukraine," he said.

He called for support for Kamala Harris

Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris, saying she is "experienced and tough."

"In just a few months, the American people will choose a course for America's future. I have made my choice. I have made my views known. I want to thank our wonderful Vice President Kamala Harris. She is experienced. She is tough. She is capable. She has been an incredible partner and leader for me and for our country. Now the choice is up to you, the American people: you make this choice," the US President said.
