Romanian Prime Minister: I am confident that Russia will not attack Romania
Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that Russia has not made any deliberate attacks on Romania and will not do so in the future. He is confident that his country does not face a war with this terrorist state.
The politician expressed this conviction on February 10, Euractiv reports. The previous night, residents of the port city of Tulcea, which borders Ukraine, received a warning about possible "objects falling from the sky" - Russian kamikaze drones that attacked Odesa.
According to the Romanian Emergency Situations Inspectorate, the locals were advised to take the necessary protective measures and seek shelter if necessary on the night of Friday and Saturday. This was the first time such warnings were issued this year.
"The Russian Federation has not initiated any deliberate aggression against Romania, and I am confident that it will not do so, as there are no excuses for this," Ciolacu said.
At the same time, he emphasized the importance of disseminating such warnings to inform citizens. According to him, this is just a "form of respect" that Romania should show to its population by ensuring that they are informed, "despite any inconvenience it may cause."
Local media reported that around 1 a.m. and in the morning of February 10, F-16s from the 86th Turkish Air Force Base in Fethiye were flying reconnaissance missions in national airspace. The Romanian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the army's radio surveillance system did not detect "any unauthorized intrusions" into the country's national airspace, and there were no reports of accidental falling of Russian drone fragments.
Earlier, fragments of the Shaheds were found in Romania, after which they appealed to NATO, stating that it was unacceptable to violate their airspace, and called the head of the Russian diplomatic mission "on the carpet."
Today, the head of the Romanian government claims that Romania has never been as secure militarily as it is now. And despite the warnings of other European countries that Russia can be expected to spread its aggression beyond Ukraine, he still believes that his country will not be affected by the war.
"As a citizen, especially after the revolution, I want to be informed and know the truth. But Romania is not threatened by war," Călacu said.
To add: On February 11, the wreckage of a Shahed-type kamikaze drone was found in Moldova near the border with Ukraine. As you know, on Sunday night, Russia attacked Ukrainian cities with 45 Shaheds, of which the defenders of the sky shot down 40, including 26 in the southern regions.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the day before, President Volodymyr Zelensky shocked with information about the number of downed Shaheds since the beginning of the year - 359. Forty of them were shot down by air defense forces during the night of February 10-11.
