Simon Mittelberger, a climatologist from Meteorological Service of France, said that the flooding in northwestern France is mainly due to natural weather variability. However, current temperatures that exceed seasonal norms also play a role.

"The warmer the atmosphere, the more water vapor it can hold. The current precipitation is mainly due to the evaporation that took place in the Atlantic during the formation of these troughs that come to our country," the expert explained.

The northwestern region of France, Brittany, is vulnerable to climate change, the effects of which are exacerbated by urbanization, artificial farming, and agriculture, which disrupt the water cycle.

According to forecasters, heavy rains are expected in the coming days, which will bring more serious shocks to France. According to climatologists, the situation will improve only on February 1, which implies the return of the anticyclone.
