Hamas political bureau member Musa Abu Marzouk made a cynical statement that the tunnels in Gaza were built to protect Hamas fighters from air strikes, not civilians. He also emphasized that Hamas terrorists are fighting Israel from inside the tunnels.

This was reported by Memri TV, citing Marzouk's interview with Russian TV channels. Abu Marzouk also added that since 75% of the residents of the Gaza Strip are refugees, the responsibility for them lies with the UN.

During the interview, the journalist noted that about 500 kilometers of tunnels had been built in Gaza, but no bomb shelters had been built where civilians could take refuge during the bombing. To which Marzouk cynically replied:

"We built the tunnels because we have no other way to protect ourselves from being attacked and killed. These tunnels are designed to protect us from airplanes. We are fighting from inside the tunnels".

He also said that according to the Geneva Conventions, the "occupier" is obliged to provide "all services" to civilians in Gaza while they are "under occupation."

"Everyone knows that 75% of the people in the Gaza Strip are refugees, and the UN is obliged to protect them. According to the Geneva Convention, the occupation is obliged to provide them with all services while they are under occupation," Marzouk said.

Israel is expanding its ground operation in the Gaza Strip against Hamas terrorists. Additional IDF forces are being deployed to the enclave.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, on October 30, footage appeared on the Internet showing a significant advance of the Israeli Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip. IDF tanks were spotted on the outskirts of Gaza City, which is the largest settlement in the Palestinian National Authority.
