Republican congressmen introduce a bill on full withdrawal of the Unites States from the UN

American Republican congressmen have introduced a bill to withdraw the United States from the United Nations, claiming that it no longer serves the country's interests. They believe that the UN has become a platform for authoritarian regimes and tyrants and often goes against the principle of Trump's "America First" agenda.

According to the lawmakers, the UN is ineffective and supports US opponents. This was reported by Fox News.

Utah Senator Mike Lee has introduced the Disengaging Entirely From the United Nations Debacle Act of 2025, which provides for the termination of US membership in the organization and the cessation of funding for its structures. The document was co-authored in the Senate by Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, and congressman Chip Roy plans to submit a bill to the House of Representatives, arguing that the UN and its bodies do not promote the interests of Americans.

"The United Nations has devolved into a platform for tyrants and a venue to attack America and her allies,," said Senator Lee, adding that America should not waste its resources on this "sham" organization. Instead, the priority should be given to "real alliances that keep our country safe and prosperous."

Chip Roy also criticized the UN, accusing it of inefficiency and support for US adversaries. He mentioned that in 2022, the United States provided more than $18 billion to the organization, which is about a third of the total UN budget.

"The United Nations has enjoyed American tax money while often undermining our interests, attacking our allies and bolstering our adversaries," Roy said. "Despite all of the money and the attention, this corrupt globalist organization has, for decades, failed to prevent wars, genocides, human rights violations and even pandemics," he added.

The Republicans paid special attention to the UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, which has come under investigation for possible involvement of its employees in the Hamas attack on Israel. In response, the United States temporarily suspended its funding in January 2024.

The document, proposed by representatives of the US Republican Party, also prohibits the executive branch from entering into any agreements with the UN without the approval of the Senate. A number of Republican lawmakers, including Mike Rogers, Eli Crane, Diana Harshbarger, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, supported the initiative.

Democrats also did not find the UN effective: 11 members of the party accused the organization of favoring Palestine. They opposed a UN General Assembly resolution demanding that Israel return the territories it seized after 1967.

"We will not accept the U.N.’s ongoing hostility to our ally Israel," the lawmakers wrote.

A Pew Research Center poll published in April 2024 showed that 70% of Democrats support the UN, while the figure is only 34% among Republicans. President Trump has already cut funding for the UN and its agencies during his first term and is likely to continue this policy.

Earlier, the media reported that Trump plans to withdraw the United States from the UN Human Rights Council because of its assistance to the Gaza Strip. He signed such a decree on February 4. Trump also announced that the United States would continue to suspend funding for the UNRWA and initiate an audit of the UN cultural organization UNESCO.

As reported, Israel welcomed US President Donald Trump's decision not to participate in the UN Human Rights Council. The country joins the United States in withdrawing from the organization.
