German Chancellor Olaf Scholz fiercely defended sending aid to Ukraine after protesters booed him during a speech at his party's meeting in Falkensee near Berlin. He stressed that Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin was the instigator of the war.
The video was posted on social media. The event on June 3 was attended by about 100 pro-Russian people.
During Scholz's speech, protesters shouted phrases such as "instigators of war" and "create a world without weapons".
In response, the German chancellor pointed out that Putin was the instigator of the war.
"Putin is the warmonger, he invaded Ukraine with 200,000 soldiers. Putin wants to destroy and conquer Ukraine," he stressed.
Scholz added that the protesters could have shouted at the Russian dictator "if you had at least a little common sense".
The German leader made it clear that he sees no other solution but to support Ukraine not only in principle but also with weapons, given Russia's full-scale invasion of the country.
"Yes, it is necessary, if a country is under attack, it must defend itself, so it is allowed to defend itself, what else?" - he added.
On the eve of the NATO summit in Vilnius, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the leaders of the Alliance would discuss, first and foremost, concrete support for Ukraine during the war. He said that the issue of support for Ukraine is the most pressing one today.
