Only Ukraine can decide whether or not to invite the aggressor country of Russia to the second Peace Summit. For India, this issue does not matter.

This was stated by Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, summarizing the results of the Indian delegation's visit to Ukraine. The Indian Foreign Minister reminded that India participated in the first Summit at the invitation of Ukraine.

"This is their initiative, in which we took part. What will be the next steps, whether the Russians will come or not, is really not a problem for us to accept a new invitation in any case. I mean, this is an issue that Ukrainian government should decide on," said Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, answering a question about inviting Russians to the Peace Summit.

However, the Indian foreign minister clarified that his country has its own point of view on the problems related to the war in Ukraine. And India's position is that Russians should be involved in the negotiations.

"There is a diversity of views, and many other countries that also participated in the Summit have their own views on how to advance peace. Our view is that it is natural to involve another stakeholder for the sake of productivity," he said.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also noted that India is against the so-called "sanctions policy" towards any country. However, "UN sanctions are the sanctions that we respect," he added.

As reported, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv on August 23, the Flag Day of Ukraine, for his first official visit. He has already met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the one-on-one conversation lasted about 2 hours.
