One of the leaders of the Alliance for the Unification of Romanians party, Claudiu Tirziu, said he wants to annex Ukrainian territories and withdraw from NATO. According to him, "we need a thaw in relations between Romania and Russia."

This was reported by the Romanian edition of Newsweek. In the first days of the invasion of Ukraine, the politician declared his readiness to extend a hand to Russia.

"We will not be truly sovereign until we reintegrate the Romanian state within its natural borders! Southern Bessarabia, Northern Bukovina, the Land of Hertz, Transcarpathia - everything that was and is part of the Romanian nation must return to the borders of the same state," Tirziu emphasized.

"The Alliance for the Unification of Romania has 13 out of 136 seats in the Senate and 29 out of 328 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, or almost 10%. AUR has 19% of support among the population and is the second most popular party in the country after the ruling Social Democratic Party.

But the situation in Romania is still better than in Hungary, as the ruling party is as pro-European as possible. Secondly, the Social Democratic Party is in a coalition with the Liberals, who are in third place with 19% and have a significant advantage over their opponents. Parliamentary elections in Romania will be held in March 2025.

As we reported, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminica-Teodora Odobescu said that the idea of a so-called frozen conflict cannot be considered.

"If the aggressor state Russia does not suffer a strategic defeat in the war in Ukraine, it will not stop at the Ukrainian border. It is not only about the survival of Ukraine, but also about the security of Europe," she emphasized.

Odobescu assured that Romania will support Ukraine "as long as it takes" and called on the West to strengthen sanctions against Moscow.

It was also reported that on January 18, Romanian farmers blocked the Halmeu-Dyakove checkpoint with agricultural machinery. Traffic leaving Ukraine has been temporarily suspended.

Earlier it became known that Hungary is once again talking about territorial claims to Ukraine. Member of the Hungarian National Assembly, leader of the right-wing party Mi Hazánk Mozgalom Laszlo Torotskai said that "the issue of Transcarpathia must be resolved."
