On October 27, Ukrainian troops continued their offensive in the areas of Bakhmut and Zaporizhzhia. The Russians are trying to counterattack in the Bakhmut direction.

The occupiers also continued attempts to encircle Avdiivka. In general, Russian military experts describe the actions of Russian troops in the Donetsk region as attempts to seize the initiative. This is stated in the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

On October 27, the Defense Forces continued limited offensive operations near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, but the Ukrainian military leadership did not report any successes. The Armed Forces of Ukraine characterized the actions in the Bakhmut area as "active defense", and assured that offensive actions are carried out to improve tactical positions whenever possible.

"The General Staff of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian troops continue offensive actions in the Bakhmut direction. The Russian Defense Ministry said that units of the Southern Group of Russian troops repelled the Ukrainian army's offensive in the areas of Bohdanivka (5 km northwest of Bakhmut), Klishchiivka (7 km southwest of Bakhmut) and Kurdiumivka (13 km southwest of Bakhmut)," the article says.

At the same time, ISW analysts said that in recent days, Russian troops were able to advance south of the Berkhiv reservoir (6 km north of Bakhmut) and made minor progress west of Kurdiumivka (13 km southwest of Bakhmut).

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that Ukrainian soldiers repelled five Russian attacks near Bohdanivka and Khromove, and more than ten near Klishchiivka and Andriivka. Russian propagandists claimed to have advanced on the heights northeast of Khromove and recaptured positions near the railroad line east of Klishchiivka. Some Russian "military experts" claim that the occupiers are trying to seize the initiative in the Bakhmut direction.

The Russians also tried to continue their offensive near Avdiivka, but were unsuccessful. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian soldiers repelled more than 20 Russian attacks in the Avdiivka direction over the past 24 hours, in particular in the area of Stepove (3 km north of Avdiivka), Avdiivka, Severne (6 km west of Avdiivka), Tonenke (5 km west of Avdiivka) and Pervomaiske (11 km southwest of Avdiivka).

According to ISW, Russian propagandists claimed that on October 26-27, the occupiers advanced north of Opytne and took up positions near the T0505 road, 1.5 km from Avdiivka. However, there is no evidence of such "successes".

According to Russian propaganda, the occupation forces allegedly advanced to the Avdiivka Coke Plant and moved along the railroad towards Stepove (ISW analysts also found no evidence).

Meanwhile, Ukrainian sources reported a possible seizure of the Avdiivka landfill by the occupiers and Russian advances near the railroad north of Avdiivka, as well as some successes of Russian troops in the direction of Vodiane-Tonenke (7 km southwest and 5 km west of Avdiivka),

"A Ukrainian military observer said that the command of the 8th Combined Arms Army of Russia (Southern Military District) has changed its tactics in the Avdiivka area and is now conducting alternate strikes by tactical groups on the northern and southern flanks of Avdiivka. Russian troops have been conducting regular offensives to the north and south, but since the start of the larger offensive on October 10, they have achieved only some success on the northern flank of Avdiivka and only a few minor successes on the southern flank," ISW noted.

At the same time, both the West and Russia note the heavy losses suffered by the Russian occupiers near Avdiivka and the further decline in the morale of the occupiers.

For example, the White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said on October 26 that Russian troops suffered thousands of casualties and lost at least 125 armored vehicles during recent offensives near Avdiivka.

He also spoke about the data available in the United States on the facts of executions of occupiers who refuse to attack in the Avdiivka area. According to him, some Russian commanders are also threatening to shoot entire units if they retreat under a barrage of fire from the Ukrainian army.

"Russian sources described the morale of Russians near Avdiivka as incredibly low, and one Russian military blogger claimed that morale was a determining factor in the Russians' failures," ISW noted.

They also emphasized that Ukraine did not claim to have conducted counterattacks near Avdiivka on October 27.

Ukrainian troops continue offensive operations in the west of the Zaporizhzhia region. According to Russian "military commanders," the Ukrainian Defense Forces made some progress toward Robotyne (10 km south of Orikhiv), and the Russians withdrew from their positions near Nesterianka (12 km northwest of Robotyne) after a Ukrainian counterattack in the area.

During October 26 and 27, according to Russian reports, Ukrainian troops also attacked northwest of Verbove (9 km east of Robotyne), as well as in the area of Nesterianka, Kopane (6 km northwest of Robotyne), Rivne (8 km west of Robotyne), Robotyne, and Novoprokopivka (3 km south of Robotyne).

At the same time, Russian troops conducted unsuccessful attacks northwest of Verbove.

As a reminder, on the morning of October 28, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that 60 combat engagements took place at the front yesterday. In particular, the enemy unsuccessfully tried to regain the lost ground near Andriivka near Bakhmut.

Over the course of the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out 5 strikes on the areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment and 4 more on enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.

The missile troops hit 4 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, 8 artillery pieces, 2 ammunition depots, a Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system TOS-1A and 3 enemy air defense systems.
