Iran fires nearly 200 Shahed drones and more than a hundred missiles at Israel, Tel Aviv is preparing a response: what is known (updated)

On the night of April 14, the Israeli Defense Forces intercepted most of the more than 300 Shahed drones and missiles launched by Iran outside the country. The IDF was assisted by the U.S. and British military in repelling the attack, shooting down targets in the skies of Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

At the same time, there were reports of a hit at an Israeli army base in the south of the country, causing minor damage to the infrastructure, after which 31 people sought medical attention. OBOZ.UA is following the events in the region online.

09:55 - President Isaac Herzog expressed his gratitude to Israel's military and allies after Iran launched a large wave of hundreds of attack UAVs and missiles at the country.

"Blessings to you, dear soldiers and commanders of the IDF and Air Force. Bless the coalition of nations led by the United States. Bless my sisters and brothers, the people of Israel, for their exceptional demonstration of resilience. Together, the forces of good will overcome the forces of evil," he said.

09:30 - Israel's chief military spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, says France was among the countries that participated in the defense against Iran's nighttime attack. He emphasized that the country has very good technology, jets and radars that helped in patrolling the airspace.

08:50 - The US Congress has called for US troops to strike Iran in response to the attack on Israel, and is also going to hold Tehran accountable for the attack. US leader Joe Biden is convening consultations with G7 allies to formulate a response to the attacks. For its part, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the events in the Middle East.

08:30 - Jordan has reopened its airspace after closing it on Saturday evening when Iran launched drones and rockets at Israel.

08:20 - Beijing expressed "deep concern" over Iran's attack on Israel and called on "relevant parties to exercise calm and restraint" to prevent further escalation. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the international community, "especially influential countries, should play a constructive role for peace and stability in the region."

08:00 - Seven hours after the Iranian attack, Israel reopened its airspace at 07:30 on Sunday, according to the country's airport authorities. This is expected to affect flight schedules from Tel Aviv and passengers should check their departure/arrival times.

07:50 - IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari clarified that 99% of the 300 or so missiles fired by Iran at Israel overnight were intercepted by air defense systems. According to him, Iran launched 170 UAVs and all of them were shot down outside the country by the army and allies. In addition, none of the 30 cruise missiles and 120 ballistic missiles fired by Iran entered Israeli airspace. Hagari confirmed that the infrastructure in Nevatim was slightly damaged, but the air base is operating normally.

07:30 - During the situation assessment on the morning of April 14, "no decision was made regarding Israel's response to the Iranian missile and drone attack," an Israeli official told The Times of Israel. He specified that a potential response would be discussed at a meeting of the military cabinet scheduled for 15:00 that day.

07:10 - After assessing the situation in the country, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that they managed to stop the main Iranian attack. At the same time, he warned that "the campaign is not over yet."

"Tonight, Israel withstood an attack by hundreds of rockets and drones, and the IDF stopped the attack in an impressive manner. The whole world saw Iran for what it is: a terrorist state that attacks Israel from a distance of 1500 kilometers and tries to activate all its networks. We must be attentive to the instructions of the IDF Home Front Command and be prepared for any scenario," the general said.

06:55 - IDF fighter jets strike a number of military installations in a complex belonging to the Radwan Hezbollah forces in the Jbaa area of southern Lebanon. This was reported by the army's press service, noting that earlier in the night, Israeli aircraft struck Hezbollah military facilities in the Khiam and Kfarkela areas.

06:50 - Israel is preparing a response to the Iranian attack, which will be coordinated with its allies, The New York Times reports, citing an Israeli official. At the same time, US President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Americans would not help any IDF counterattack on Iran.

According to them, the Jordanian air force also "intercepted and shot down dozens of Iranian UAVs" that violated the country's airspace and were heading for Israel. 06:30 - The U.S. military intercepted more than 70 drones and at least three ballistic missiles during Iran's attack on Israel on Sunday night, CNN reports, citing unnamed U.S. officials. One of them said that the ballistic missiles were intercepted by warships in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
