In Germany, the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" refused to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine at its congress: details
In Germany, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party did not include in its election program a clause condemning Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. At the party congress on Sunday, January 12, the proposal to include such an item in the program was rejected by the majority of deputies.
This was reported by DW. Bundestag member Albrecht Glaser said that the party's 85-page draft program does not contain a single word about Russia's attack on Ukraine. He suggested adding a corresponding paragraph to the program.
Glaser's initiative clearly stated that Russia's war "disregards many norms of the international law of war regarding the protection of civilians," and therefore the party "condemns Putin's behavior."
However, according to journalists, 69% of the approximately 600 delegates to the party congress voted against the motion.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine is still mentioned in the AfD's election program, but without criticizing Russia. It says that the war in Ukraine has "shaken the European peace order."
In addition, the party sees Ukraine's future "as a neutral state outside NATO and the European Union."
As a reminder, the far-right Alternative for Germany party has been publicly supported several times by American billionaire and owner of the X social network Elon Musk. He posted a live broadcast of the AfD congress on his account. In addition, he publicly supported Alice Weidel, the AfD candidate for chancellor of Germany.
Preparations for the federal elections have already begun in Germany. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) has confirmed the candidacy of the current Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, Olaf Scholz said that he was concerned about Elon Musk's support for the Alternative for Germany political party. This political force preaches rapprochement with the aggressor country Russia and wants to weaken transatlantic relations.
