Hungary will support Rutte's candidacy for NATO Secretary General: Orban names conditions
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban no longer opposes the candidacy of Mark Rutte, the prime minister of the Netherlands, as the next NATO secretary general. It's all about Ukraine.
Rutte promised Orban that he would allow Budapest to continue to ignore assistance to our country. After that, the head of the Hungarian government declared his readiness to support the politician. The details were shared by Orban himself on June 18 on his X(Twitter) page.
He explained that he wanted the next secretary general of the alliance to support his agreement with Jens Stoltenberg that Hungary "will not participate in NATO's activities in Ukraine and no Hungarian funds will be used to support it."
During the meeting in Brussels, Rutte assured that he would continue this policy.
"In the light of his promise, Hungary is ready to support the candidacy of [Dutch] Prime Minister Rutte for the post of NATO Secretary General," Orban wrote.
The candidate also assured Orban that in his new position, all members of the North Atlantic Alliance would be treated "with the same level of understanding and respect."
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the media recently said that NATO has adopted an "operational plan to expand support for Ukraine." It envisages a greater role of the organization in supplying weapons and training our soldiers. The decision became possible after Orban lifted his veto.
