France plans to quadruple production of mortar shells: when will it happen
The French industrial company Thales plans to quadruple the production of mortar shells by 2026. This rapid increase in production is due to a new order from the French army for "tens of thousands of shells."
This was reported on the company's website. Thales emphasizes that at its plant in La Ferté-Saint-Aubin, they plan to increase production from 20,000 rounds per year in 2023 to more than 80,000 rounds per year by 2026.
Deliveries of 120mm ammunition under these contracts will be made in phases from 2024 to 2029, with the first delivery scheduled for the last quarter of 2024.
The company said the 120mm rifled ammunition it produces has characteristics that make it equivalent to 155mm ammunition.
"It is a great honor for us to regain the trust of the French ground forces. This order for 120 mm ammunition is in line with the capacity building and we are doing everything we can to support this need," said Hervé Dammann, Deputy CEO of Thales.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Paris will allocate 200 million euros under the Reconstruction Fund for companies that will invest in the restoration of our country's critical infrastructure. At the same time, 60 million euros will be allocated to the energy sector.
Earlier it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron announced Paris' plans to provide Ukraine with Mirage 2000-5 multi-role fighter aircraft and train Ukrainian pilots to fly them. The training will start on June 7 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The number of Mirages to be delivered is not yet known, but as of 2023, France had 27 of them.
