China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi talks to Lavrov after the summit in Saudi Arabia: they talked about Ukraine

After participating in diplomatic talks in Saudi Arabia that were held without Russian participation, Beijing confirmed to Moscow that it maintains its "impartiality" regarding the war in Ukraine. The day after the summit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

This was reported by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During a telephone conversation on 7 August, Wang I told his Russian counterpart that China and Russia are "reliable friends and partners".

"Regarding the Ukrainian crisis, China will uphold an independent and impartial position, express an objective and rational voice, actively promote peace talks and try to find a political solution to any international multilateral event," the Chinese diplomat said.

For his part, Lavrov noted that Russia fully shares China's views on a political solution to the "crisis in Ukraine" within the framework of the position paper and "highly appreciates China's constructive contribution to this process."

The phone call followed two days of talks organised by Saudi Arabia. About 40 countries took part in these talks, including Ukraine's key allies, such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, as well as India and countries from the Middle East. The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibilities of resolving the war started by Russia on the territory of Ukraine, which has been going on for almost 18 months.

Earlier it was reported that at the summit in Saudi Arabia, China sought to show that it was "not the same" as the aggressor country Russia. Therefore, it actively discussed the option of ending the war put forward by our side.
