'China will definitely reunify': Xi Jinping pledges to 'take back' Taiwan in New Year's address.
Chinese President Xi Jinping promised to "reclaim" Taiwan in his New Year's address . He called the "reunification" with the island nation a "historical necessity" .
According to the Chinese leader, the Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should "share the great glory of national renaissance". The text of the address was published on the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on the evening of December 31.
"China will surely reunify. . ..The reunification of the motherland is a historical necessity, and compatriots on both sides of the [Taiwan] Strait should hold hands and share the great glory of national rejuvenation," Xi Jinping said in his address to the Chinese people.
At the same time, he recalled that 2024 will mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. He said China should "steadily push forwardChina-style modernization, fully, precisely and comprehensively implement the new development concept."
In addition, Xi Jinping called it necessary to "persistently pursue progress, preserving stability, promoting stability through progress."
As you know, China celebrates the New Year when the clock strikes 18:00 in Ukraine.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that the head of China voices such statements. In particular, in his New Year's address on the eve of 2022, Xi Jinping said: "National reunification is the common hope of the people of the two shores of the Taiwan Strait. I sincerely hope that all Chinese can move forward together toward a beautiful future of the Chinese nation."
As reported by OBOZ.UA, China earlier appointed as head of the Ministry of Defense 62-year-old Navy veteran and former Navy chief Dong Jun, who is not under U.S. sanctions. According to Bloomberg, this will help ease the way for the resumption of military talks with the U.S., which have been on hold since Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in 2022.
