Bulgarian politician voiced territorial claims to Macedonia and part of Ukraine: the Foreign Ministry reacted
The scandalous press conference of the new US President Donald Trump has already produced its first "results." Bulgarian Putinist politician and leader of the pro-Russian party "V'zrazhdane" ("Revival") Kostadin Kostadinov followed the example of the American leader and announced his country's alleged "claims" to part of the Odesa region. He called for the annexation of Southern Bessarabia to Bulgaria, which provoked a harsh reaction from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
Kostadinov posted his claims to Ukraine on Facebook. The Ukrainian Embassy in Bulgaria responded to the Putinist's statements.
The pro-Russian politician's statements were provoked by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's statements about Canada and the Panama Canal. In his post, Kostadin Kostadinov said that he believes that Trump's claims to the territory of sovereign states are fully justified and that he and his party fully support them.
Therefore, in his opinion, Bulgaria also has every right to claim Macedonia and Southern Bessarabia (the southern part of the Odesa region).
In his post, Kostadinov stated that "Bulgarians make up the majority of the population of Southern Bessarabia," so "there is nothing more logical than returning the region to Bulgaria."
"Ukraine is disintegrating, and at the upcoming peace congress, which will decide the fate of the so-called Ukrainian statehood that has not taken place, Bulgaria should declare its claims to Bulgarian Bessarabia," the pro-Russian politician said.
The Ukrainian Embassy responded to Kostadinov's calls to annex Southern Bessarabia to Bulgaria.
The diplomatic mission called on the Bulgarian leadership to condemn the statements of the pro-Russian politician, "who incites the destruction of international law, distorts historical facts and encourages the redistribution of borders in Europe."
The Ukrainian embassy emphasized that "the statements of the leader of the "Revival" party regarding territorial encroachments on Ukraine are unacceptable for a politician of an EU member state and confirm his systematic promotion of the Kremlin's narratives."
As reported by OBOZ.UA:
At a press conference in Florida, US President-elect Donald Trump said that Canada should become the 51st state of the United States, Denmark should cede Greenland to the United States, and threatened to regain control of the Panama Canal.
Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States and France Oleh Shamshur emphasized that such statements by Trump play into Putin's hands. After the inauguration of the newly elected US president on January 20, 2025, America in particular, and the world in general may face a series of events that could change the political landscape of the planet.
