Biden-Xi meeting will definitely take place: the White House officially announced the date

US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will meet on Wednesday, November 15, in California. During the talks, they are expected to discuss trade, Taiwan, and managing the complex US-China relationship.

It will be the first face-to-face meeting between the leaders of the world's two largest economies in almost a year. This was reported by Reuters and CNN.

The talks are unlikely to lead to significant warming in the world's most important bilateral relationship. Instead, the fact that the meeting will take place at all is seen by White House aides as a positive sign after months of friction.

The talks are expected to cover more global issues, from Israel's war with Hamas to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, North Korea's ties to Russia, Taiwan, the Indo-Pacific, human rights, artificial intelligence, and "fair" trade and economic relations.

The White House confirmed the day of the meeting in a statement on Friday. China's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Xi would visit the United States on November 14-17, attend the APEC summit and meet with Biden.

Faced with a cascading conflict in the Middle East and a brutal war in Ukraine, Biden is eager to prevent a new global crisis from erupting under his leadership. Restoring some stability in relations between Washington and Beijing has been one of the top priorities of his foreign policy, even as global tensions have escalated.

Among the issues expected to arise during the talks is the restoration of military ties between the two countries, which is a major goal of Biden, who plans to put pressure on Xi on this issue.

Wednesday's summit will be the second face-to-face meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping in the last three years. The last time they met face-to-face was a year ago on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali. This meeting was intended to establish a framework for relations amid rising economic and military tensions.

As OBOZ.UA wrote:

- Ukrainian diplomat, Ukraine's ambassador to Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2010-2017, Oleksandr Levchenko believes that the meeting between Biden and Xi Jinping in the United States will not be a formality.

- Earlier, Xi Jinping said that Beijing is ready to continue mutually beneficial cooperation with Washington. Whether the two world powers - China and the United States - can "find the right way to cooperate" is "crucial for peace and development around the world."
