On Saturday evening, November 4, in Hamburg, Germany, a man in a car broke into the territory of Helmut Schmidt Airport. The airfield was blocked. His daughter was in the car with him.
This was reported by BILD (to see photos and videos, scroll to the bottom of the page) . The armed man was spotted at the airport at 20:12.
"His wife warned the police and emergency workers that her husband was rushing to the airport with a child," the report said.
He drove an Audi without a license plate in front of Terminal 1, knocking down the barrier and fence at the north gate and driving toward the planes. Since then, the Audi has been parked in the business aviation terminal area near the Turkish Airlines plane.

The attacker fired several shots from his vehicle and also threw two burning Molotov cocktail-like bottles out of the window. The airport's fire department was able to extinguish them without causing any damage to aircraft or other property.

Air traffic in Hamburg has been completely suspended. All accesses to the terminals were blocked, and police escorted people out of Terminals 1 and 2 to safety and evacuated passengers from the plane.
As of the morning of Sunday, November 5, the man and his child were still in the car at the airport. Throughout the night, police held unsuccessful negotiations with him, offering him to surrender.
The man reportedly wants to fly to Turkey with his daughter. Media reports suggest that the situation was preceded by a dispute over child custody.
The airport remains closed until further notice.
