The city of Taba is located on the Egyptian border near the Israeli port of Eilat on the Red Sea. The Israeli Defense Forces indicated that they were aware of a security incident outside the country.

Reuters recalled that on October 25, Hamas said it had fired a rocket at Eilat, which, according to the Israeli military, hit the neighborhood. That incident was the farthest Palestinian attack in the entire war in the Gaza Strip, which has been going on since October 7.

After the explosion in Taba on Friday morning, no one has claimed responsibility for it. Analysts pointed out that the current incident underscores the danger faced by Egypt and other countries in the region amid the intensification of hostilities between Israel and Hamas.

"Egypt has been actively involved in negotiations on Palestinian access to aid, trying to secure the release of hostages held by militants and advocating for a ceasefire. But its proximity to the front line has exposed it to risks," the statement said.

It added that on October 22, several Egyptian border guards were injured by accidental shell fragments from an Israeli tank. At the time, Tel Aviv apologized for the incident.

On Friday afternoon, the Ar-Rai portal, citing Reuters, which in turn quoted two sources in the Egyptian security services, reported that another shell had fallen in Egypt near the Israeli border. In particular, in the deserted part of the resort town of Nuweiba on the Red Sea. An eyewitness allegedly reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing clouds of dust in the distance. The information was not confirmed by the authorities.
