On the night of Thursday, September 28, a powerful explosion occurred in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent near the customs warehouse of the local airport. Windows in many buildings were blown out, and then a massive fire broke out.
This was reported by local media (to see photos and videos, scroll to the bottom of the page) . Many ambulances and firefighters arrived at the scene, but there is no information on casualties or injuries yet.
Later it became known that the explosion and fire occurred in the company's warehouse. The Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan reported that it was located in the massiv Kuruvchi in the Sergeliysky district of Tashkent. 16 fire and rescue crews and 3 ladder trucks were sent there.
After the explosion, almost nothing remained of the customs terminal building at Tashkent Airport, and the warehouse where the accident occurred was completely destroyed.
According to preliminary information, the explosion could have been caused by batteries for electric vehicles stored in the customs warehouse. Local media also reported that the explosion could have been caused by a lightning strike.
