21 people die as passenger bus falls from the bridge in Venice: Ukrainians are among the victims. Video
A passenger bus fell off a bridge near the Italian city of Venice. At least 21 people died and 12 others were injured.
There are Ukrainians among the victims. This was reported by Bild, BBC and DW. The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleh Nikolenko, said that (as of 8:00 a.m. of October 4) five citizens of our country were killed and three others were injured.
The bus crashed through a fence and fell on a railroad track in the Mestri area of mainland Italy, which is connected to Venice by a bridge.
The accident occurred on Tuesday at about 19.45 local time. The cause is not yet known. According to Italian media reports, the bus caught fire after the accident.
As a result of the accident, 21 people died, 12 were injured and up to five people are still missing. Two children were among the victims.
The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, said that a "huge tragedy" had occurred.
"An apocalyptic scene, there are no words," he said.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also expressed condolences.
"Our thoughts go out to the victims, their families and friends," she said.
As a reminder, Ukrainians crashed in Poland in a terrible accident. A father and his three sons were killed, which is half of a large family. The mother of the dead boys and their two daughters was in Ukraine at the time.
