"Withdraw the troops": Borrell puts Russia in its place after hysteria over "Ukraine's strike" on Kremlin

Josep Borrell calls on Russia to withdraw troops and not to escalate

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine after Moscow accused Kyiv of launching a drone strike on the Kremlin and assassinating President Vladimir Putin. He stressed that this would be the best solution to the conflict.

Josep Borrell made the statement at a press conference in Brussels. His words were quoted by CNN.

The EU foreign policy chief believes that Russia can use this attack on the Kremlin as a pretext to continue escalation and justify a new wave of mobilisation.

"We urge Russia not to use this alleged attack as a pretext to continue escalating the war. This is what we are concerned about. We are concerned that this could be used to justify more conscription and more attacks on Ukraine," Borrell said.

Borrell added that "the only solution to this war" is to support Ukraine "militarily, politically and economically".

And the best solution to the conflict would be for Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

"The best solution to the war, the only solution to the war, is for Russia to stop attacking and withdraw its troops from Ukraine," said Josep Borrell.

His words came at a time when Russia accused Ukraine of allegedly carrying out US orders to attack the Kremlin.

As you know, Ukraine denies any involvement in the drones that attacked the "heart of Russia".

Earlier this week, US officials said they were still assessing the incident and had no information on who might have been responsible.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL:

On May 2, unknown drones attacked the Kremlin. Muscovites heard loud noises around three in the morning, then noticed sparks and smoke.

On the afternoon of May 3, a video of the attack itself and an angry statement by the Russian president's press service appeared, saying that it was an assassination attempt on Putin.

Zelenskyy commented on the nighttime explosions over the Kremlin and said that Ukraine had not attacked the territory of the aggressor country of Russia, nor had it attempted to assassinate Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
