What's happening near Kupyansk: the Ukrainian Armed Forces report "meat assaults" by the enemy
The situation in the Kupyansk sector remains difficult but under control. Russian troops are using the tactic of "meat assaults", but to no avail.
The enemy is trying to seize the initiative in the Kharkiv region and break through Ukrainian defences. This was stated by the spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Cherevaty, during a telethon.
Due to the intensification of Russian activity in the Kupyansk direction, the commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, visited the area. Ukrainian forces have strengthened their defence there.
"The Kupyansk direction is one of those where the enemy is trying to seize the initiative, trying to act aggressively, to break through our defences. However, as a result of all the measures taken, in particular, the commander of the Land Forces worked in this area - orders were given, defence and strike assets were strengthened," said Cherevaty.
According to him, the enemy's intentions are not a secret for the Defence Forces, and the soldiers are doing everything to disrupt Russia's plans for Kharkiv region.
"We know the enemy units, their commanders, we know their intentions, so we are acting there to disrupt the enemy's intentions," Cherevaty said.
The spokesperson for the Eastern Military Group also noted that the enemy is using its key "tactic" in the Kupyansk sector: "meat assaults". But they do not bring much success to Russia.
"It's their 'replica' of Wagner. These companies are 'Storm Z'. But I think that thanks to our defence forces, they will repeat the same 'Wagner feat'," Cherevaty added.
He also said that in the Kupyansk-Lyman sector, the enemy carried out 559 attacks and 16 air raids over the last day. In addition, the occupants tried to attack the positions of Ukrainian defenders four times.
"In the course of repelling the attacks, 35 occupants were killed and 110 wounded. Three tanks, a D-20 howitzer, an Orlan-10 UAV, seven vehicles, three field ammunition depots and three enemy dugouts were destroyed," said the Armed Forces spokesman.
The day before, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Hanna Mariar said that Russian troops were trying to break through the Ukrainian defences in the Kupyansk sector. The enemy has formed an offensive group there and is trying to advance, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, a mandatory evacuation is being launched in Kupyansk district of Kharkiv region: civilians from 37 frontline settlements will be moved to safe regions of Ukraine. The reason for this decision was the intensified shelling of villages and towns, as well as the security situation in the region.
