"We cannot become numb to this": U.S. State Department responded to Russia's massive missile attack on Ukraine
Russia's missile attacks on Ukraine demonstrate the level of brutality of the citizens of the aggressor country. Washington, along with its allies, will work to prevent them from becoming the norm.
Spokesman for the U.S. Department of State, Ned Price, stated this at a briefing on March 9, when Russia committed another war crime and terror against Ukrainians. The video is available on the State Department YouTube channel (scroll down to the bottom of the news story).
"Russia has tried to make them the new normal. So our charge is to work with the allies and partners around the world to make clear that this can’t be normal," the official said.
He noted that the world cannot remain indifferent to what the terrorist state of Russia is doing against Ukraine.
Price reminded that it had been only a few weeks since the Russian occupiers carried out massive attacks on peaceful Ukrainian cities, including agricultural depots, energy and other critical infrastructure.
"And that speaks to the level of brutality that they are willing to perpetrate against the Ukrainian people," the State Department spokesman said.
As a reminder, on the night of March 9, Russian occupation forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine, which led to new destruction and deaths of civilians, the blackout of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, and the loss of electricity and water supply in many regions. First, the invaders launched Shahed kamikaze drones, four of which were shot down by our defenders of the sky, and launched 95 missiles of various types: 34 of 48 cruise missiles were shot down. The missile arrivals were confirmed in Odesa, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk and other regions.
After this attack, the enemy shelled Kherson. One of the shells hit a public transport stop on Korabelna Square, killing four people.
Later, the occupiers once again struck Zaporizhzhia: at about 8:00 p.m., a series of powerful explosions occurred in the city, causing serious damage to civilian infrastructure. Preliminary, two educational institutions were damaged, and windows in the buildings were blown out.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to another war crime by Russia, which launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine on the night of March 9. He emphasized that the aggressor launched missiles of various types and kamikaze drones to terrorize civilians. He also added that neither missiles nor atrocities would help Russia to put shackles on Ukraine.
