"We're fighting the enemy": a volunteer from Belarus tells why he came to the defense of Ukraine. Photos and videos

Andrey Tratsevskiy from Belarus has been fighting on the side of Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war

Belarusian volunteer Andreн Tratsevskiy, nicknamed "Bezsmertny," together with his comrades from the Belarusian Volunteer Corps, is fighting on the side of Ukraine against the Russian occupiers. The former employee of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense came to the defense of our country on the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion.

Andrey explains his decision to go to war simply: he is fighting not only the aggressor state of Russia, but also the regime of self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, who deprived him of his home. Bezsmertny told his story to journalists of the Ukrainian Witness project.

Volunteer Andrey Tratsevskiy ("Bezsmertny") has been fighting the Russian occupiers in Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale Russian aggression. The warrior became one of the co-founders of the Belarusian Volunteer Corps.

Currently, he is involved in battles in the Zaporizhzhia sector. According to the warrior, the Russians have managed to dig in well.

"On the second line of defense, the Russian dugouts are filled with concrete and fortified five meters deep. The only way to get the enemy from there is to enter these fortifications with your own feet," noted Bezsmertny.

Andrey Tratsevskiy once worked as an engineer in the Belarusian Ministry of Defense. However, he could not reconcile himself with the hazing and arbitrariness that prevails in the still thoroughly "soviet" Belarusian army.

"I was repeatedly offered to become a policeman or a soldier - I refused. It contradicts my worldview. Once I saw a major in the Belarusian army forcing a young soldier to cut the lawn with a pair of clerical scissors. I filmed it with my smartphone and then wrote a letter of resignation," said Tratsevski.

He also spoke about the creeping occupation of Belarus, which has been carried out by Russia for decades with the full cooperation of the Lukashenko regime. In particular, this is clearly seen in the language issue in the country.

"Belarusian is the language of teachers and oppositionists, it doesn't actually exist. Everyone speaks Russian. If your neighbor hears you speaking Belarusian, he can call the police and report you as an "oppositionist," Andriy noted.

It was pain for his country, coupled with an innate sense of justice, that brought Tratsevskiy to the front in Ukraine. The soldier is convinced that by fighting back against Russia in Ukraine, he is bringing the liberation of his native country closer.

"Here we are fighting the enemy who took away my country. If I die, it will be in the fight for the truth, for people and absolute good," Bezsmertnyi explained his decision in a simple but comprehensive manner.

Earlier, it became known that the young daughter of a volunteer from Belarus who died in Ukraine received the Cross of the Brave from Zaluzhny.

Dzmitry "Hans" Rubashevsky fought for Ukraine in 2015 as a member of the Right Sector. He received the public award "People's Hero of Ukraine" for defending the Butivka mine. "Hans" was wounded three times, and in 2019 he lost an eye in combat.

After the injury, he was cared for by the sister of his fallen comrade. Soon they got married and had a daughter.

Dmytro died on April 12, 2022, while performing a combat mission in the Luhansk region. The soldier fought as part of a company tactical group that made raids into enemy lines. Before his death, "Hans" killed the commander of the Russian group.

In early September 2023, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky posthumously awarded him the Order for Courage, III degree.
