Russian military man who used weapons to disperse peaceful protesters in Nova Kakhovka to be tried in Ukraine

A Russian military officer who used weapons to disperse participants in a peaceful protest in Nova Kakhovka will be tried in Ukraine. Unarmed people were shot at with assault rifles, stun and smoke grenades were thrown, rubber batons were used, and tear gas was used.

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office. Civilians sustained injuries of varying severity, including gunshot wounds.

An indictment has been filed against the commander of the tactical group of the 378th Separate Operational Battalion of the Russian National Guard on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war (Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Prosecutors of the Kherson Regional and Kakhovka District Prosecutor's Offices are in charge of the proceedings.

According to the investigation, in February 2022, this commander, together with his subordinates, took part in the seizure of the town of Nova Kakhovka in the Kherson region.

Their goal was to suppress the resistance of the local population, which protested against the policies of the occupation authorities, and to persuade Ukrainian citizens to cooperate. In addition, they systematically detained, arrested and killed civilians, in violation of the laws and customs of war.

In March last year, Russian servicemen, obeying the orders of the suspect, committed a violation of international humanitarian law by using weapons to disperse participants in a peaceful rally in support of Ukraine's territorial integrity.

During this incident, they shot at unarmed people with assault rifles, threw stun and smoke grenades, beat them with rubber batons and used tear gas.

Civilians sustained injuries of varying severity, including gunshot wounds.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, another Russian occupier involved in war crimes will be tried in Ukraine. A serviceman of the terrorist country is involved in the murder and imitation of the death penalty of civilians in Kyiv region. The offender faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.
