US to send Ukraine more than 500 interceptor missiles for Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems – WSJ
The United States will soon send a new batch of military aid to Ukraine. It will include hundreds of interceptor missiles for the Patriot and NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems.
According to preliminary data, the Ukrainian army can count on 500 interceptor missiles, which will last only until the end of this year. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
American officials said that missiles for Patriot and NASAMS should arrive in Ukraine in the coming weeks. According to one of the officials, these deliveries should satisfy Ukraine's air defense needs by the end of the year.
It is worth noting that the supply of weapons was affected by the results of the US presidential election. Earlier, Joe Biden's administration intended to provide assistance to Ukraine until April.
However, after Republican Donald Trump won the election, the Biden administration intends to provide Ukraine with as much military aid as possible by January. The White House hopes to provide Ukraine with a stronger negotiating position and strengthen the country's defense capabilities.
To date, more than $7 billion allocated by the Pentagon to transfer weapons and ammunition from its stockpiles to Ukraine remain unspent in the United States. The U.S. government can also use more than $2 billion intended to finance long-term contracts for the supply of equipment to Ukraine.
As a reminder, the administration of US President Joe Biden has allowed US defense contractors to operate in Ukraine to maintain and repair weapons and equipment supplied by the Pentagon. Lifting the ban will help make the process more efficient.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, in order for Ukraine to win the war with Russia and bring a just peace closer, the partners must strengthen the defense capabilities of its Armed Forces. This is envisaged by the Victory Plan presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
