A number of U.S. senators from the Republican and Democratic parties have called for the White House to lift restrictions on the use of long-range U.S. weapons by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. They believe that so far, Washington's support for Kyiv has not been decisive enough and this needs to be corrected.

This was reported by the Voice of America. The journalists write that the call of the Ukrainian authorities was supported, in particular, by Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware, Republican Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska, and Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas.

They answered in the affirmative to the host's question about whether they believe it is necessary to lift the restrictions on the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strike with American weapons at military targets of the occupiers in Russia.

"If so, would you like to encourage them to do so?" the moderator asked.

"Yes. Yes. Yes," all three senators answered.

They recalled that Washington has been providing significant support to Ukraine, but that all the important weapons have been delivered to the Ukrainian Defense Forces with a delay, sometimes even years.

"The way this war has been conducted on our side has not been so great. For every single weapon system that the Ukrainians have asked for, and the list is really long – HIMARS, Javelin, Stinger, Patriots, Abrams tanks, ATACMS, F-16s – every time they've asked for it, the Biden administration has delayed delivering it to them for months, even years," Sullivan said.

He added that he does not understand the US concerns that giving Ukraine the necessary weapons could "provoke" Russian dictator Putin, as he has already invaded the country.

"Just imagine what would have happened if we had given them all these weapons at the beginning of the war, how different that war would have been from the current one," Sullivan emphasized.

Earlier, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said that after the NATO summit, the US position on allowing the use of ATACMS missiles to strike deep into Russia had not changed. At the same time, she emphasized that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have other long-range weapons for such strikes, which were not transferred by Washington.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Presidential Administration, explained that by the phrase "strikes deep into Russia," Ukraine does not mean a demonstration of single explosions in Russia, but the systematic destruction of Russian air bases and military production facilities. The right strategy involves weakening the aggressor country in three ways.
