US buys 60 Gepard air defense systems from Jordan for Ukraine - De Telegraaf

The United States has purchased a batch of Gepard self-propelled air defense systems from Jordan. It consists of 60 units of tanks, all of which will be sent to help Ukrainian troops in the confrontation with Russia.

This was reported by the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. The Jordanian government purchased these units from the Netherlands in 2016 for 21 million euros.

"It was a "ridiculous" price at the time. However, now the United States has already spent 110 million euros on these combat vehicles," the article says.

It should be noted that the Gepard anti-aircraft system is designed to protect armored columns on the march and stationary objects from attacks from helicopters and aircraft at low and ultra-low altitudes, day and night, in all weather conditions and in the event of intense enemy electronic countermeasures.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, in order to continue to counter Russian aggression and prevent the Kremlin's war from spreading further to Europe, the EU must be ready to compensate for the lack of assistance to Ukraine from the United States. It is the responsibility of Kyiv's European partners to support it to the end.

"We have many problems that will be a test for the EU. First of all, Ukraine, where the prospect of victory over Russia is not immediate. And we, the Europeans, having the necessary funds for this, must be ready, politically speaking, to continue to help Ukraine, given that US support is likely to decline," said Josep Borrell, the EU's representative for foreign affairs and security policy.
