US announces new military aid package for Ukraine: what it includes

The United States has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine. It will include weapons and ammunition worth $250 million.

This is stated in a statement by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, published on the website of the US Department of State. This time, the United States will donate to our army

- ammunition for 155 mm and 105 mm artillery,

- ammunition for HIMARS,

- AIM-9M air defence missiles,

- Javelin portable anti-tank systems,

- equipment for mine clearance,

- medical evacuation vehicles, etc.

"Russia started this war and can end it at any time by withdrawing its troops from Ukraine and stopping its brutal attacks. Until that happens, the United States, our allies and partners will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes," Blinken said.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden and European allies are developing plans for long-term military assistance to Ukraine. This is to ensure that Russia cannot win on the battlefield. Such assistance will also help convince the Kremlin that Western support for Kyiv will not weaken.

- Germany has approached Greece with a proposal to give Ukraine 100 Greek Leopard 1A5 tanks, which are currently in service. The transfer of tanks may take place under a trilateral agreement, according to which Greece will receive upgraded armoured vehicles;

- Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov suggested that modern F-16 fighters could strengthen the Ukrainian Air Force in the spring of 2024. The training of our aviators will take some time. We also need to prepare the infrastructure for the use of the new aircraft, which may take at least six months.
