Ukrainian Navy spokesman explains importance of Kinburn Spit for Ukraine and Russia
From the Kinburn Spit, a temporarily occupied part of the Mykolaiv region near Ochakiv, the enemy continues to shell the southern districts of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. In addition, from this location, Russians have the opportunity to attack ships that could potentially enter the waters of the Dnipro-Bug Estuary.
Because of this, the Kinburn Spit is important for both Ukraine and Russia. This was stated by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy.
"As you know, this is the way to the seaports of Mykolaiv. And, in addition, this area still needs to be surveyed for mine safety, because it is in this area, in this section, that the Dnipro flows from the Kherson region and, accordingly, quite a few explosive objects could have gotten there after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by the Russians. If ships were washed away there, what can we say about mines? So, yes, this area is important for us and, unfortunately, as of now, it is being shelled from the Kinburn Spit," he said.
He emphasized that from the Kinburn Spit, Russians can attack Mykolaiv and other localities. According to the military, our Defense Forces periodically strike in response to such hostile attacks by the occupiers.

– The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine showed footage of the operation on the Kinburn Spit in Mykolaiv region. The soldiers of the Cyclone reconnaissance and strike group inflicted heavy losses on the enemy in military equipment and manpower.
