Ukraine will receive modified F-16 fighter jets: Air Force reveals details

The first batch of F-16s sent to Ukraine will be modified. Countries that have these fighter jets in service have been improving them "to the best of their ability."

The planes that will become Ukrainian can be improved in the future at facilities in Europe and the United States. This was stated by a representative of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yurii Ihnat. On December 23, he commented on the aviation program on the United News TV marathon.

Ihnat assured that the whole process is going as planned within the F-16 coalition. Partner countries "are helping us to transition to a new type of aircraft for us, the F-16s".

"The modification is divided into so-called blocks. Block 15, 20, 30 and up to 70. Each aircraft was improved to the best of the country's ability because modernization is not an easy process," the military explained.

Basically, states have modified radars (onboard radar) so that pilots can "see" the enemy at a greater distance and also accompany more air targets.

"In the long run, if our pilots, our entire base, airfield infrastructure, engineers, and ground staff are ready to fully operate this type of aircraft (F-16 - Ed.), we can already dream of more modern models," the Air Force representative added.

- On the morning of December 22, a telephone conversation took place between Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the conversation, the head of the Dutch government announced the preparation of the first 18 F-16 fighter jets for delivery to our country.

- Earlier, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that the fourth-generation F-16 fighter jets, which are needed to achieve air superiority over the enemy, will be received in the short term.

- The Institute of War Studies does not rule out that this will happen in the near future.
