"This is Putin's classic scheme": the White House reacts to Russia's massive missile and drone strike on Ukraine

The White House called the Russian attack on Ukraine a "classic Putin scheme"

The United States commented on Russia's massive shelling of Ukraine, noting that such actions are a "classic Putin move." Washington also noted that they are focused on providing our country with reliable air defense capabilities.

This was stated by White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby at a briefing, Voice of America reports. He condemned the Russian attack that caused death and destruction in Ukraine.

"This is a classic Putin pattern of attacking energy infrastructure, especially because he knows that the weather is going to change soon and that people will need a lot more heat and electricity as it gets colder in Ukraine. This was again a classic Putin move. And what we're focused on is making sure they have the best possible air defense capabilities," the official said.

Kirby also noted that Ukraine's air defense forces performed "very well" during the August 26 attack.

"They didn't shoot down everything that came out of the sky, obviously some of the assets got hit, but they shot down most of the air targets. So we have to make sure they can continue to do that. So we're focused on interceptors and air defense systems, not only from the United States but from allies and partners," the White House official said.

He added that the United States is working with Kyiv not only to protect energy facilities but also to provide Ukraine with energy equipment to repair what Russia has damaged with its strikes and to strengthen the resilience of Ukraine's energy network.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Ukraine and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mathias Schmale, responded to Russia's combined attack on Ukraine on August 26, which was the most massive in the entire war. He condemned the actions of the aggressor country.

Meanwhile, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that our country is preparing a response to the aggressor. To combat Russian shelling, it is necessary to provide the Ukrainian Defense Forces with sufficient long-range weapons "that can destroy terrorists exactly where they strike," he emphasized.
