"This is our reality": military journalist says we should not rule out the possibility of Russia using tactical nuclear weapons. Video

Nuclear weapons
Selezniov comments on the possibility of Russia's use of tactical nuclear weapons

Ukraine should not dismiss the threat that the aggressor state of Russia could use tactical nuclear weapons in a war. However, the nuclear threats made by Russian officials since 2022 should not stop us from restoring our territorial integrity.

This was stated by Vladyslav Selezniov, a military journalist and speaker of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2014-17, on OBOZ.Talk. In his opinion, such a development should not be ruled out.

However, threats about using tactical nuclear weapons have been coming from the Kremlin for almost three years, but as of now, they are only threats.

"Tactical nuclear weapons, which President Putin and former President Medvedev talk about a lot, are our reality. Should we exclude the use of this type of weapon at all? Probably not. But on the other hand, the highest military and political officials of the Russian Federation constantly say they are about to use nuclear weapons since April 2022. There are only hints, no one talking about its actual use. The hints will continue, but it is unlikely that they will dare to use such weapons. Talking and doing are different stories," the expert said.

He noted that nuclear threats should not stop Ukraine in its struggle for independence.

"It is probably not worth paying attention to such empty statements of the Kremlin elders. Should the threat of using nuclear weapons stop our desire to gain and maintain independence and restore our territorial integrity? It is obvious that Putin has openly stated plans to destroy Ukraine as an independent country and Ukrainians as part of the community of nations," Selezniov added.

As a reminder, Russian dictator Putin has approved a new nuclear doctrine of the Russian Federation. The Russian war criminal signed the relevant decree on the 1000th day of the full-scale war against Ukraine. The updated document provides for the expansion of the grounds for the use of nuclear weapons.

Earlier, the Kremlin admitted that it had decided to change its nuclear doctrine in order to threaten Western countries. According to Putin's spokesman Peskov, Russia warns the West of the consequences in case of an attack.

The White House said it did not intend to change its nuclear policy in response to Russia's new doctrine, which expands the conditions for the use of nuclear weapons.

As reported, EU Chief Diplomat Josep Borrell said that Putin's approval of the new Russian nuclear doctrine once again proved the Kremlin's irresponsible attitude to its international obligations.
