"This hodgepodge works": Ihnat shared how Ukraine is preparing to defend itself against Russian attacks in the fall

Ihnat shared how Ukraine is preparing to defend itself against Russian attacks in the fall

Air Defense Forces are combining the use of Soviet and Western equipment to counter Russian missile and drone attacks as effectively as possible. However, the available Air Defense means are still insufficient as the military has to defend populated areas and strategic facilities.

According to the speaker of the Air Force of the AFU Yuriy Ihnat, when the Russian Federation launched massive attacks last fall, Ukraine did not have Western Air Defense systems, but now the situation has changed for the better. He spoke about this on the air of the national TV marathon.

Ihnat noted that the AFU strengthened Air Defense. At the same time, the effectiveness of the fight against enemy air defenses depends solely on the number of Air Defense means.

"We stood up then and we will stand up now. We are strengthening our Air Force and all the Defense Forces are strengthening their short-range Air Defense. There is no such distance to destroy large air targets. But if there are more of them, the result will be better. A year ago, we had no Western medium-range assets at all. We only got our first NASAMS and Iris in the fall in very limited numbers," Ihnat said.

The speaker of the Air Force said that now the military calls the Air Defense means in Ukraine a hodgepodge because the sky is protected by a wide variety of Soviet and Western equipment. The fighters successfully use the available means and maximize their effectiveness against Russian missile and drone attacks.

"If you look at it today, we already have a variety of Air Defense means which is not found in the whole world. As our anti-aircraft gunners joke, it is a hodgepodge These are NASAMS, Iris, Patriot, SAMP-T systems, as well as Air Defense Ground Forces, which works successfully with the help of Gepard, Crotale and Avenger means. All these Air Defense systems are working today and bringing results. They are also complementing the Soviet equipment that is still working effectively, including S-300, Buk-M1 and S-125 systems. This hodgepodge works and brings results," Ihnat noted.

Ihnat emphasized that the territory of Ukraine is large, so the available Air Defense means are still insufficient. In this regard, the military organizes Air Defense locally to protect cities and strategic facilities.

The deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence Major-General Vadym Skibitsky said that the occupants are now studying Ukraine's energy facilities, looking for their vulnerabilities and the location of our Air Defense systems. They will analyze all this to choose optimal routes for missile launches already in the fall of 2023.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Federation may continue massive attacks on cities and infrastructure of Ukraine in the fall and winter. The aggressor will probably rely on kamikaze drones, but missiles will also be used.
