"There will still be a lot of fighting": general Milley urged not to call the counteroffensive of the AFU a failure

General and head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley urged not to call the AFU counteroffensive a failure. According to him, there is still a lot of fighting to be done.
Milley said this during a joint press briefing with US Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin on Tuesday, July 18. He assured that it is too early to say such words, writes Voice of America.
"It's far from a failure. I think it's too early to say that. I think there is still a lot of fight left," Milley said, answering questions from the press following the 14th meeting of the Contact Group on defense support for Ukraine in the Rammstein format.
Milley emphasized that the counteroffensive may be moving more slowly than analysts had anticipated. He stated that reality is different from theory.
"There is a difference between a war on paper and a real war. It's real people in real vehicles clearing real minefields and actually getting killed. So when that happens, units tend to slow down. It's the right thing to do to survive and get through these minefields. Thus, the Ukrainians make their way through," said the US top general.
According to him, the Ukrainians can deploy additional combat capabilities.
"What the Ukrainians have is a significant amount of combat power that has not yet been activated. I'm not going to say what will happen in the future, because Ukraine will decide where and when they will deploy their reserves. Right now, they are maintaining their combat capability and slowly, deliberately and steadily they're breaking through all these minefields. It's a tough fight, it's a very tough battle," the U.S. military official asserted.
