There is damage in Zhytomyr after a night attack by Russian drones - the mayor

A Russian attack on Ukraine by kamikaze drones on the night of May 28 affected Zhytomyr Region, where explosions were heard. In the morning, a hit in the regional center was confirmed - with destruction, but no casualties.

It was reported by the mayor of Zhytomyr Sergiy Sukhomlin in Facebook. Details of the arrival he promised to tell later.

"The alarm lasted about five hours. Zhitomir without casualties. There is damage. Details later. Hang in there," the official wrote.

It should be noted that in the comments to the post, Zhytomyr residents told what consequences they had heard or seen of the arrival. This was instantly used by the enemy to spread propaganda in Russian Z-groups.

Subsequently, the Zhytomyr City Council clarified that 26 residential buildings in the city were damaged.

"After today's alarm there is damage in the city. Most of the damage is to the common areas of apartment buildings. The glass in the stairwells is out... Educational and health care institutions, where there is damage to doors and windows, are operating normally. Only students of lyceum № 25, who are temporarily studying in the lyceum № 33, will study remotely from tomorrow", - noted in the City Council.

They also reminded residents that under the Law of Ukraine № 2923-IX "On Compensation for Damage and Destruction of Certain Categories of Immovable Property as a Result of Military Actions, Terrorist Acts, and Sabotage Caused by the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine", residents of damaged houses may apply for financial assistance to repair the damage.

As stressed in the City Council, the owners of private houses only need to pass the appropriate registration in the application Diya.

"In the case of damaged windows/doors in a private house, we register in the Action on the program there is Restoration. We wait for the meeting of the commission and allocation of funds", - explained in Zhytomyr City Council.

In the case of damage to the common areas in apartment buildings, you can act in two ways:

- any co-owner of the apartment building is registered in Diya to receive compensation for the damaged common property object.

- It is necessary to order expert evaluation of damages from a legal entity: condominium or management company and apply to CNAP for funding of the works.

However, not only residential buildings and public facilities were damaged as a result of the night attack.

The head of the Zhytomyr regional military administration Sergiy Bunechko pointed out that at night the enemy struck one of the infrastructure facilities in the region, so explosions were heard.

"According to preliminary data, there are no victims or casualties," he wrote.

During this air attack, the aggressor country of the Russian Federation launched a record number of Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 strike drones in the direction of Ukraine - 54 pieces. Of these, 52 Shaheds were shot down by air defense forces, most of them in Kyiv region.

On Sunday night, the network reported explosions in the Kiev, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Mykolaiv regions. The regional military administration stressed that air defense forces were standing by to protect Ukrainian skies and repel the Russian attack.
