"The West has not decided what it plans to do with Russia": Ohryzko points to key problem for Ukraine

Western countries have not yet decided on their further actions towards Russia or the post-Russian space. Fear of nuclear blackmail by the Kremlin is holding them back from making radical decisions, so Ukraine is in a situation where it hears mostly promises and talk but sees no real steps.

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Volodymyr Ohryzko said this in an interview with OBOZ.UA. According to him, neither Ukraine nor its Western allies have a clear plan for defeating Russia.

"The West has not yet decided for itself what it plans to do with Russia or post-Russia. And depending on this, it acts. If we imagine that the West has decided that Russia must be defeated. Then it is clear to any Western politician that if there is a relevant political decision, then practical steps are being prepared to implement it. The relevant experts gather, sit down, discuss everything quite quickly, especially since everything is clear, and act accordingly," Ohryzko said.

However, according to the expert, the partner countries have only been discussing and promising to provide assistance to Ukraine for many months, but have not made any concrete decisions.

"I draw a simple conclusion from this that the West has not yet decided for itself and does not have an answer to this key question of what to do with Russia. Some say that Ukraine shouldn't lose, others say that Russia shouldn't win, others say that we should freeze it at the stage we are at now, and others suggest that Ukraine should surrender. That is, there are as many so-called experts as there are proposals, but there is no political decision at the highest level," the former minister said.

Mr. Ohryzko noted that Ukraine has found itself in a situation where the West's resolve has disappeared, partly due to fear of Russia's nuclear blackmail. In addition, neither Western countries nor Ukraine have a clear plan for victory. He believes that the peace plan prepared by the president's office contains correct but general phrases without concrete steps to victory.

"Perhaps we will finally move from the peace plan, that is, the plan of correct but general words without specifics, to the plan of victory. I hope that this plan will include concrete steps, both on our part and on the part of the West, to achieve this victory. I will tell you frankly that the public is also working on this plan, there are certain developments, perhaps they will also help our government think about specific things that can be presented to the American administration," the expert emphasized.

He noted that if Ukraine clearly articulates the goal of defeating Russia and can convince our Western partners, especially the Americans, the situation will probably start to move forward.

"So far, when we talk about the Formula for Peace, which has great goals, but very vague ones that don't oblige anyone to anything. When we start talking about a victory plan, where it will be written what needs to be done, who needs to do it, and what exactly we can get from it, then, I think, the situation with aid will start to improve," Ohryzko summed up.

Earlier it was reported that the offensive potential of the Russian occupation army would begin to decline in September. In order to maintain its positions at the same level, the enemy may more actively use short-range missiles, including 120-kilometer ballistic missiles transferred to Russia by Iran.
