The US confirms participation of DPRK military in battles against the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kursk region
The United States has confirmed that the North Korean military is taking part in hostilities in the Kursk region. In particular, we are talking about the fighting on November 4.
This is reported by Reuters. The publication cites sources among American officials.
One of the officials, who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity, said that DPRK soldiers took part in the fighting on November 4.
The officials did not say whether there were any North Korean casualties, nor did they provide any other details about the battle.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday, November 5, that the first fighting between the Ukrainian military and North Korean troops "opens a new page of instability in the world."
Earlier this week, the Pentagon said that there are at least 10,000 North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region, adding that there are 11 to 12 DPRK troops in Russia.
As a reminder, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov confirmed in an interview with South Korean television that the first military clash between Ukrainian troops and DPRK soldiers fighting on the side of the Russian occupiers took place in Kursk. The North Korean military were disguised as Buryats and mixed with Russian units, so the exact number of casualties and prisoners needs to be verified, the minister added.
According to Umerov, this clash should be regarded as the official beginning of North Korea's participation in the war against Ukraine.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Russian instructors are training DPRK soldiers and officers in the Kursk region to conduct modern warfare. In particular, Russians are teaching Koreans how to use drones.
On November 4, there were reports that DPRK soldiers came under fire in the Kursk region. This was reported by Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
