The UN confirmed the deaths of almost 10 thousand civilian Ukrainians as a result of Russian aggression: details
The United Nations has counted 9,701 dead and 17,748 wounded in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. It is noted that most people were killed or injured in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.
This is stated in the report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for September 25. It is this agency that is engaged in the relevant calculations.
Thus, the UN reports that 7,550 people were killed and 14,638 others were injured in the government-controlled areas. Of these, 4287 were killed and 6324 wounded in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. 3,263 were killed and 8,314 wounded in the other two regions.
In the territory temporarily occupied by Russia, there are 2151 dead and 3110 wounded. Of these, 805 were killed and 2815 wounded in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. 1346 were killed and 295 wounded in the other three regions.
Among the dead, 4521 were men, 2707 women, 289 boys and 237 girls. At the same time, the sex of 29 children and 1918 adults who died has not yet been determined.
The UN emphasizes that the true number of civilian casualties in Ukraine is much higher. The reason for this is that it is currently impossible to obtain information from some places where intense fighting is taking place. In addition, many reports, including those concerning Mariupol in the Donetsk region, Lysychansk, Popasna and Severodonetsk in the Luhansk region, where numerous civilian casualties were reported, need to be verified and confirmed.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, a UN investigation says that Russian invaders tortured some Ukrainian prisoners to death and raped women in the temporarily occupied territories. The victims of sexual violence were women aged 19 to 83.
