"The time has not come yet",- the Italian defense minister spoke out about holding peace talks between Ukraine and Russian Federation

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto expressed the opinion that the time for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia has not yet come. However, he emphasized their necessity and added that "hope dies last."

Crozetto said this in an interview with the Quotidiano Nazionale newspaper. The Italian minister noted that the support for Kyiv from the West and the European Union remains unchanged.

He also acknowledged that interest in the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine has decreased, but this is mainly in the information sphere, not at the political level.

"Ukraine is fighting to defend its sovereignty and to uphold international law...

Obviously, a lasting peace cannot be based on military action alone. A political "truce" is needed. The time for this has not yet come, but "hope dies last," Crozetto said.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, representatives of the United States and the European Union have begun discussions with the Ukrainian government on the possibility of negotiations with Russia and possible compromises that Ukraine may be forced to make to achieve peace. These dialogues have arisen in the context of the threat of the military conflict turning into a long positional war and the West's concern about the possibility of providing long-term assistance to Ukraine.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian government reacted to the statements of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where Valeriy Zaluzhny expressed concern and said that the situation on the battlefield had reached a deadlock. Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated that "all the goals of the special operation will be achieved."
