The target was the energy sector: Russia launched "Kalibrs," "Kinzhals," Tu-95MS missiles, and ballistic missiles at Ukraine. All the details
The terrorist state of Russia, following a nighttime drone attack on the morning of December 13, also launched missile strikes against Ukraine, including ballistic missiles. The hostile weapons were launched from Tu-95MS strategic bombers, MiG-31K aircraft, and ships in the Black Sea, targeting energy infrastructure and transportation networks, particularly in the west of the country.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was one of the most massive attacks on the country's energy sector in recent times: the enemy launched 93 missiles of various types and almost 200 drones. The threat of strikes was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and monitoring channels on Telegram.
Consequences of the enemy attack
The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Martsinkiv, noted that air defense was operating in the region: the wreckage of the downed target fell in one of the villages of the community, and there were no casualties.
In the Lviv region, the enemy attacked energy facilities: there is no information on casualties. At the same time, due to the shelling, there will be changes in the schedules of power outages, the RMA reported.
Russian missiles also targeted Ukraine's transportation networks and key facilities, U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink wrote on social networking site X.
"Starting at 07:00 Kyiv time, Ukraine's critical infrastructure is under another massive attack. Russia has fired ballistic missiles, targeting energy systems, transportation networks, and key facilities across the country," she said.
Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, noted that four private houses in two districts of the region were damaged by the falling debris of the downed targets. Windows and doors were smashed and facades were cut. In addition, two boxes of an agricultural enterprise were damaged in one of the districts, and power lines were damaged in another. Falling debris was also recorded outside of settlements in open areas.
In the Drohobych district of the Lviv region, Russia attacked a critical infrastructure facility with missiles. According to Stepan Kulyniak, the head of the Regional Military Administration, there were no casualties, and the hit caused a fire, which is being extinguished by rescuers.
In the Odesa region, enemy missile fragments caused damage to civilian infrastructure, including the office of a private transportation company and eight trucks.
A missile strike damaged an industrial facility in the Ternopil region, causing a large-scale fire. Fifty-seven rescuers and 16 units of SES equipment were engaged in the emergency response.
Rescuers also extinguished a large-scale fire in Prykarpattia, where the enemy attacked critical infrastructure facilities.
"Thanks to the prompt work of the rescuers, the fires caused by the shelling were quickly extinguished. Mobile operational groups of the State Emergency Service are working in different districts of the region to assess the consequences of the falling debris. According to preliminary information, no one was killed or injured," the SES reported.
Results of air defense work
On the night of December 13, Ukrainian defense forces shot down 80 out of 193 Russian attack drones over Ukraine, another 105 drones were lost in the area, five returned to Russia and one flew to Belarus. In the morning, the defenders of the sky destroyed 81 out of 94 Russian missiles, including an "Iskander-M" ballistic missile.
The aggressor country, Russia, cynically claimed that this massive attack on Ukraine's energy facilities was a "response for Taganrog" – that is, a Ukrainian strike with ATACMS missiles on a military airfield in Taganrog, Rostov region of the Russian Federation.
Details of the massive Russian attack
At about 06:16, Ukrainian air force aircraft reported a high-speed target moving toward Kharkiv (it continued to fly toward Donetsk region), and then toward Kremenchuk, Poltava region. According to monitoring channels, the enemy launched ballistic missiles – explosions were heard in both cities.
"Attention! MiG-31K takeoff from Savasleyka airfield. Do not ignore the air raid alarm!" the Air Force said at 07:25.
They added that Russian cruise missiles are now being spotted – in the Sumy region heading to the Chernihiv region, while others are flying through the Mykolaiv region to the Kirovohrad region. In addition, three groups of X-101 missiles from Chernihiv region through Romny to Poltava region.
Later, the missiles were spotted in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, and Odesa regions, and the city reported that a target was hit.
Several groups of missiles were moving on the border of Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr regions, heading west/northwest. In Kyiv region, air defense was reported to be operating.
Russian missiles were also headed for Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
At the time of the Russian attack on Ukraine, Poland's air force was deployed, the country's Operational Command of the Armed Forces reported.
Ukraine's Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said that Russia continues its terror and that our country's energy infrastructure is once again under attack.
"Power engineers are taking all the necessary measures to minimize the negative consequences for the energy system. As soon as the security situation allows, the damage will be clarified," he said.
Ukrenergo warned that due to the massive missile attack by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian power facilities, the scope of electricity consumption restrictions was increased on December 13.
Around 08:50, the Ukrainian Air Force reported two Russian "Kinzhal" missiles fired through the Zhytomyr region to the north of the Khmelnytskyi region, then to Ternopil, Prykarpattia, and Transcarpathia.
"Both 'Kinzhal' missiles hit near Burshtyn, Ivano-Frankivsk region," the monitoring channels said.
Later, several more such missiles were reported. Svitlana Onyshchuk, head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration, confirmed that the enemy continues to attack the region.
As a reminder, at around 05:00 on Friday, eight Russian Tu-95MS aircraft took to the launch pads in the Engels area of Saratov region. The Telegram channel Monitor warned that Russian bombers had probably launched cruise missiles.
At the same time, Russian drone attacks continued in Ukraine. Air alert remained in effect in some regions, as air defense forces were working to destroy the Shahed.
As of 06:00, there were reports of possible launches of Russian cruise missiles from the Caspian Sea. At that time, there were no enemy missiles in Ukrainian airspace.
"Repeated launch maneuvers of all eight TU-95MS aircraft in the Caspian Sea area. All aircraft took off from Olenka. There is a high probability that the launches are real. The missile threat has been extended until about 07:30," "Nikolaev Vanek" wrote.
The "first launch" of cruise missiles at 05:00 was fake, unlike the second. Russian war criminals also launched "Kalibr" cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea.
"The enemy shows no signs of readiness to stop attacking and terrorizing Ukraine. It does not change its tactics with missile attacks. He has been accumulating missiles and drones and has predictably launched them. Putin must be broken, otherwise, it is not clear that Russia wants to end the war," commented Andrii Kovalenko, head of the National Security and Defense Council's Center for Countering Disinformation.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, the Pentagon said that in the coming days, Russia could launch another "Oreshnik," a medium-range ballistic missile, at Ukraine. The US Defense Department noted that this would still "not change the rules of the game on the battlefield" and would be just another attempt by Russia to inflict damage and casualties on Ukraine.
