"The situation is unstable": China makes statement on Ukraine at UN Security Council and calls for preventing strikes on nuclear power plants

At a meeting of the UN Security Council on September 24, China made a statement on Russia's war against Ukraine. Beijing called for "not expanding the war zone" and not attacking nuclear power plants.

This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced information about Russia's intentions to strike nuclear facilities in Ukraine. At the same time, China continues to promote its "peace plan," which consists of an "immediate ceasefire," refusal to supply weapons to Ukraine, and abstention from sanctions against Russia.

Thus, in his speech, Wang Yi said that China calls for not expanding the combat zone. The Chinese diplomat also emphasized the inadmissibility of attacks on nuclear power plants and the use of nuclear weapons.

"All parties should prioritize peace and people and be truly committed to advancing peace talks," he said.

At the same time, based on the speech of the Chinese Foreign Minister, Beijing believes that it is necessary to stop supplying weapons to the war zone.

The "conflict" in Ukraine is becoming more and more destructive. The situation is unsustainable and must be reversed, and all parties must be sincerely committed to advancing peace talks. The more weapons are sent to the war zone, the more difficult it is to achieve a ceasefire," Wang Yi said.

He also noted that it is necessary to immediately start "dialogue and negotiations" because Beijing sees them as the "only viable way" to resolve the "Ukrainian crisis," otherwise this "crisis" will only get worse.

The PRC is also concerned about the prospect of the crisis "spilling over" into the global economy, which, according to Wang Yi, must be "refrained from." This, the Chinese diplomat continued, should be done by refraining from sanctions and blocking certain areas of global trade. As in the case of "stopping the supply of weapons," Wang Yi did not name any country, although given that the sanctions were imposed on the aggressor country and its "allies," it is obvious who China stands for here.

Continuation of the sanctions policy, Wang Yi believes, threatens one of the UN's goals of sustainable development.

The head of the Chinese diplomacy also called China's position on the Russian-Ukrainian war "consistent".

"The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected. The goals and principles of the UN Charter must be upheld. The legitimate security concerns of all countries should be taken seriously, and it is important to support all initiatives aimed at resolving this crisis," Wang Yi said.

As a reminder, in his speech, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian special services had received information that Russia wanted to attack three of our nuclear power plants. Earlier, in an interview with ABC News, the head of state said that Russia was photographing them with the help of Chinese satellites.
