The Russian Foreign Ministry exploded with threats over the idea of deploying peacekeepers in Ukraine
The aggressor country of Russia has threatened the West if it sends peacekeepers to Ukraine without Moscow's permission. They say that these soldiers will then become a "legitimate target" for the Russians.
This "act of diplomacy" is the work of Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry. On his Telegram channel on January 26, he commented on discussions in Germany about participating in a peacekeeping mission.
Miroshnik was offended, saying that no one was talking about peacekeepers when the Ukrainian counteroffensive was being prepared and a tank coalition was being formed to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with equipment.
"Then why pretend that the attempts to invent 'peacekeepers' are not about establishing peace at all, but only attempts to save the Zelenskyy regime in Kyiv from defeat by pseudo-humane methods?" the Kremlin representative was indignant.
The senior Russian diplomat threatened to attack the peacekeeping forces.
"Any contingent that enters the territory of Ukraine without Russia's consent and permission is a military target with quite understandable consequences," he said.
As a reminder, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius did not rule out the idea of sending his troops to the future buffer zone in Ukraine in the event of an end to the war. But this issue should be discussed only when "the time is right."
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that any peacekeeping force, if deployed in Ukraine, should include US troops. This will be the key to their effectiveness.
