The Russian Defense Ministry could give up the capture of Bakhmut in order to prepare for a counterattack by the AFU: ISW explained Prigozhin's hysteria
The Russian Ministry of Defense has probably lowered the priority of the Bakhmut operation in favor of preparing to defend against an expected counterattack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This situation has put the Wagner PMC and its leader in a difficult situation.
This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War. It is noticeable that the war criminal Prigozhin is desperate for the situation.
Thus, on May 4 and 5, Yevgeny Prigozhin published a series of videos in which he indignantly stated that the Wagner would leave Bakhmut on May 10 if they were not provided with the necessary ammunition.
He also harshly and emotionally accused Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and the Russian Defense Ministry leadership. One can see the despair and anger of Prigozhin on the tape, where he showed the corpses of recently dead mercenaries of the Wagner PMC.
This indicates that the Russian Defense Ministry may have stripped Bakhmut of its priority and shifted its operational focus to protecting its positions from Ukrainian forces. And this poses a serious threat to the ability of the armed formation to act effectively on the battlefield.
However, the Wagner PMC has so far not stopped its attempts to fully capture Bakhmut, even with limited access to ammunition and other necessary equipment. Prigozhin has expressed no desire to move to the defense within the city limits.

As a reminder, Russian war criminal Yevgeny Prigozhin stated that he would withdraw his mercenaries from Bakhmut due to a shortage of ammunition. The conflict between the leader of the "Vagnerians" and the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country over the lack of ammunition has not subsided for several months.
