The Hero's beloved wife and little son were waiting for him at home: the day before his father's funeral, he turned 2 years old.

"Ihor Yurasov, call sign 'Samets', proved to be a true leader from the very first days. Decisive, proactive, with pronounced organizational skills. He was eager to learn, skillfully able to use all the firearms available at our military training center. Almost immediately, I wanted him to be a squad leader. However, Ihor always repeated: "I don't want to be a leader, but I will stand with the guys to the end." Very quickly, the guys began to rally around Ihor, he was a man of authority. When the question arose of a group commander to consolidate on new frontiers, no one doubted that "Samets" was the right man. In everyday life, he behaved like a hospitable host. A loyal comrade, a reliable brother-in-arms, a leader," the commander of the second ranger platoon recalled of Yurasov.
