The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has approved the delivery of a new Khorunzhyi armored personnel carrier, which is a modernized version of the Soviet BTR-60, to the Armed Forces. This armored personnel carrier, developed by Ukrainian engineers, has received significant improvements that make it a reliable and modern combat vehicle.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense. The body of the Khorunzhyi is made of high-quality Finnish steel, which significantly improves the ballistic protection of the vehicle without increasing its weight.

The frontal armor is capable of withstanding shots from a large-caliber machine gun from a distance of 10 meters, and the entire hull is protected from 7.62 mm bullets with a steel core. The armored personnel carrier also has mine protection: the bottom design and special seats protect the crew from explosive devices with a capacity of up to 6 kg of TNT.

Significant changes have also been made to the powerplant: instead of two 90-horsepower gasoline engines, the Khorunzhyi is equipped with a 330-horsepower diesel engine that allows the vehicle to reach speeds of over 80 km/h. The range of the armored personnel carrier has also been increased to more than 500 kilometers.

The new Khorunzhyi has modern ergonomics, easy boarding through the stern, and electronics, including video surveillance and air conditioning systems. Thanks to the possibility of autonomous operation from the generator, the vehicle can operate even when the engine is turned off.

In terms of armament, the armored personnel carrier is equipped with a combat module with a 14.5 mm machine gun or a 30x113 mm cannon.

In addition, the Khorunzhyi has a modular design that allows it to be used in six different variations, including a sanitary evacuation, command and staff, and a self-propelled mortar vehicle.

Thanks to the new hull shape and increased height, the Khorunzhyi has become more spacious and safer for the crew, as well as able to adapt to various combat missions.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian Defense Forces will receive domestically produced BoarTAC unmanned multipurpose transporters that can operate on the front line. The Ministry of Defense has codified and authorized this robotic equipment.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the defense ministry codified and authorized the use of a new Ukrainian-made infantry flamethrower. The weapon was developed by specialists of one of the defense industry institutions.
